Holiferm and ICS enter into distribution agreement

Holiferm and ICS have entered into a distribution for biosurfactants in the Benelux region.

We are delighted to announce that with immediate effect, Integrated Chemicals will begin distributing biosurfactants supplied by Holiferm. This exclusive distribution agreement for this novel range of eco-friendly surfactants is applicable in Benelux.

Holiferm product range, under the tradenames HoneySurf® and HoliSurf®, are 100% biobased and biodegradable alternatives to petrochemical surfactants. These environmentally friendly biosurfactants are produced using a natural fermentation process with yeast found in honey, derived from European renewable feedstocks. They find diverse applications in home care for hard surface cleaners and liquid dish wash detergents, as well as in personal care for face creams and shampoos. Additionally, these COSMOS-approved biosurfactants offer unique benefits, including exceptional mildness to the skin. Holiferm’s patented highly productive fermentation process enables these biosurfactants to enter the mass market, challenging the dominance of petrochemical-dependent surfactants.

“Holiferm uses fermentation to enable the production of new surfactants that are not only more sustainable but also bring added benefits, giving customers a competitive advantage. Available from our new commercial plant in Liverpool, currently under capacity expansion to meet demand, sophorolipids will be an important tool in the formulation of a greener future,” adds Joana Pereira, Business Development Manager at Holiferm. “Integrated Chemicals have an excellent reputation and market presence in Benelux and a lot of enthusiasm for new sustainable solutions. That makes them an ideal distribution partner for us and we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with them.”

About Holiferm

Holiferm was founded on the back of patented fermentation with integrated gravity separation technology developed at the University of Manchester. As a company we aim to disrupt the market and replace all petrochemical produced surfactants with our naturally produced biosurfactants, thereby significantly lowering the amount of CO2 produced in chemical manufacturing. We use yeast derived from honey together with rapeseed oil and glucose to produce our biosurfactants using a continuous method, which makes them not only more economically viable, but more environmentally friendly too. Our biosurfactants have applications in many products found around the home including cosmetics, skin care, shower gels and hand cleansers as well as in the agriculture and textile industries.

Holiferm is a split site company with a research and development facility in Manchester and a commercial plant in Wallasey. The research and development facility has a bespoke lab where our team design and trial innovative new methods for the production of chemicals in sustainable and environmentally friendly ways. The commercial plant is the first of its kind in the world and allows for the production of our biosurfactants at scale and an effective cost point. We currently offer sophorolipids in both high and low foaming varieties, with rhamnolipids and MELs to be introduced to market in 2024.
